The short version

A tilt and turn window does two jobs from a single handle. Turn it once and the top of the sash tilts inwards a few inches, letting air trickle through without leaving the window open to the world. Turn it again and the whole sash swings inwards like a door.

That second position is the one people fall for. Because the sash opens into the room, you can clean the outside of the glass standing at your own windowsill, which makes them a sensible answer upstairs, in a flat, or anywhere a ladder is a nuisance.

Two opening positions

Tilt for ventilation or turn fully inwards, all from one handle.

Cleaned from inside

The sash opens into the room, so both faces of the glass are within reach.

Secure on tilt

The tilt position locks along the sides, so air gets in and nothing else does.

A-rated glazing

Argon-filled, low-E double glazing as standard, in uPVC or aluminium.

Why choose tilt and turn over a normal casement?

Two reasons, usually: you can clean the outside of the glass from indoors, and the tilt position gives you ventilation that is safe to leave on. They come into their own on upper floors and in flats where the outside of the window is hard to reach.

Do they take up room inside?

In the fully turned position the sash does swing into the room, so they suit windows that are not directly over a worktop, a sink or a radiator shelf. We will flag anywhere that is a problem when we measure up.

Can I have them on just some windows?

Yes, and that is often the sensible way to do it. Plenty of customers put tilt and turns upstairs where cleaning is awkward and standard casements downstairs, all matched in the same frame and colour.
